Customs impounds N10m frozen chicken in noodles’ packs

Officials of the Federal Operating Unit (FOU), Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), have intercepted and confiscated a truck load of frozen poultry products concealed in packs of Indomie noodles. The FOU Controller, Comptroller Ahmed Azarema, told journalists during the public destruction of the poultry products that vigilant operatives of the unit, working on reliable intelligence, intercepted a truck with registration number JJT 63 ZH at Aba-Eleme axis and found it stacked with cartons of Indomie noodles.
Azarema disclosed that the confiscated products were valued at N10,125,000. He said: “On careful scrutiny, our men discovered that within the stacks of Indomie noodles, a total of 550 cartons of frozen poultry products were carefully concealed. “I want to use this arrest to convey to smugglers operating in this axis that the Nigeria Customs Service is as committed as always to stem the tide of smuggling in the region and to put an end to the undue sabotage of the country.” The controller, however, said he culprits behind the contraband were still at large. He said: “The driver conveying the product knew nothing about what he was carrying. He was just delivering goods for a customer without knowing the true nature of the cargo he carried. “However, investigation is still ongoing to unravel the identities of the criminals behind the contraband.”
